Professional Education Programs

Healthcare Students

Harrington Cancer Center physicians actively participate in the academic programs of Texas Tech Medical School and School of Pharmacy through lectures to medical students and residents, teaching at morning report and Professor's Rounds and supervision of Texas Tech medical students and residents on month-long clinical rotations in Medical Oncology and Hematology. Physicians and pharmacists at Harrington Cancer Center also supervise Texas Tech pharmacy students and clinical pharmacy residents on clinical rotations at the Cancer Center. Nursing students from WTA&MU observe clinical nursing activities at Harrington Cancer Center.

Combined Cancer Conference

Combined Cancer Conference is a weekly multidisciplinary cancer conference focusing on treatment planning for newly diagnosed and recurrent cancer patients. Healthcare providers earn CEU & CME credit. Held every Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. on the 2nd Floor Administrative Board Room at BSA Hospital.

Interdisciplinary Breast Conference

Interdisciplinary Breast Conference is a weekly multidisciplinary breast conference focusing on treatment planning for newly diagnosed and recurrent breast cancer patients. Healthcare providers earn CEU & CME credit. Held every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Harrington Cancer Center in the 2nd Floor Amphitheater.

Conferences and Special Speakers

The Cancer Education Department plans, implements and evaluates these programs as requested by physicians or other departments such as the Weir-Periman Lectureship Conference.

Texas Tech Grand Rounds

Harrington Cancer Center Physicians present at Texas Tech University Health Science Center Department of Internal Medicine Grand Rounds six times per year.

Tobacco Cessation Training for Healthcare Professionals

The professional training focuses on teaching hospital employees how-to provide tobacco cessation counseling to patients. We also offer medical provider training to area physicians and staff regarding medical office tobacco cessation counseling. Dental and pharmacy training are also available. Pharmacy In-Service

Pharmacy In-Service is a weekly in-service training coordinated through the Pharmacy Department for updates on new drugs and clinical trials. CEU's are provided.
