Transportation Resources for Qualified Applicants:

American Cancer Society Road to Recovery - Volunteers provide transportation to and from cancer related treatment. Available to cancer patients who do not have family or friends available to transport them. Four days advance notice is required. Patient must be ambulatory.

Circle of Friends -Provides travel reimbursement when no other transportation resources are available. An application for assistance and prior authorization are required.

Medicaid Transportation - Medicaid contracts with local and rural transportation resources to provide transportation for Medicaid recipients. Travel reimbursement can also be provided to individuals or other providers upon request. Prior authorization is required along with 24 hour advance notice.

Panhandle Transit - Provides the public with local and rural transportation. 24 hour advance notice is required and a nominal fee is charged.

Senior Transportation - Available in some communities for senior citizens.

Lodging Resources for Qualified Applicants:

American Cancer Society Guest Room Program - Provides temporary housing for cancer patients who must travel from out of town for outpatient treatment and checkups. Participating hotels are used on a rotating basis. Two days notice is required and referral needed from a social worker or other health care professional.

Ronald McDonald House- A "Home Away from Home" for families of critically ill children. Referral needed from a social worker or other health care professional.

Circle of Friends Apartments - Two furnished, one bedroom apartments are available for qualifying cancer patients receiving outpatient cancer treatment. The cost of each apartment is $140 per week for the two furnished apartments with washers and dryers. If the cost of the weekly rent creates a financial burden, applications can be submitted to Circle of Friends for reduced rent. Patient is required to pay a $100 security deposit that is refundable if the apartment is left clean, undamaged and with all furnishings in place. There is a 2 week minimum stay and an 9 week maximum.

Medical Center League House - The Medical Center League House provides a hotel-like facility to patients and family members of patients who reside outside of Amarillo. Referral required by a social worker or healthcare professional.
