Your First Visit

What to Expect

Your first visit to Harrington Cancer Center will take longer than your other visits; please allow for 30-45 minutes for registration and one hour with your doctor. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing. We recommend women wear a two piece outfit (pants or skirt with front button top).

Here are some things to expect at your first visit:

  1. Patient check in
You will check in at the main reception area in the lobby.
  2. Financial counselor for registration and paper work
Be sure to bring your insurance cards with you when you come to the Center. You will be asked if you have an Advance Directive.
  3. New Patient Handbook
  4. Laboratory for tests
Please wear comfortable and easily accessible clothing for having blood drawn (if ordered by your doctor) and blood pressure taken.
  5. X-ray department (if ordered by your doctor)
  6. Visit with your primary nurse
Please bring your nursing assessment form and all prescription medications you are currently taking (in their original bottles)
  7. Visit with your oncologist
Please feel free to ask questions and get information about your care. If you decide to take treatment, you may be scheduled to attend chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy class before any treatment is given. In some cases, treatment may begin immediately.

What to Bring

Bring with you your nursing assessment form and all prescription medications you are currently taking (in their original bottle). Also be sure to bring the health insurance identification cards and drug prescription cards for each plan that covers you and proof of your address (such as a driver's license or telephone bill).

Where to Park

Garage - The garage is open to patients and visitors and is located underneath the left side of the building. There are four handicap parking spaces next to the elevator at the south end of the garage. Garage doors will open automatically during business hours.

Reserved Patient Parking - The outside parking lot first level is reserved for patient and handicap parking only. The second and third levels are open parking for both patients and staff.

Drop Off - Please use our covered entrance in the front of the Cancer Center to drop off patients. This is a drop-off area only. Please drive only on the pavement, not the bricks.
